The challenge has begun…
What a way to start the New Year of 2020 than with a personal goal of walking 1000 miles with your dog.
Over the year you will accumulate your daily walking miles and by December 2020, will reach the goal of 1000 miles. How fantastic!
While the challenge is set to motivate us to achieve a goal, it’s also about improving our mental and physical wellbeing. Winter months can be difficult due to the weather, plus its dark and dreary, so its very hard to:
In the short time since the challenge started, I personally have clocked up more miles than I normally would, burned more calories (also eaten more cake!!) and taken myself and my dog Georgie out for walks in the rain – just to reach our daily and weekly targets. The challenge is motivating. When you are out and about, take pictures of you and your dog enjoying the challenge in the outdoors and use the #NIDOGS1000 – post them to Instagram (@dogfriendlyni) or to the closed Facebook group (NI Dogs 1000)
So as we head towards the end of January 2020, we need to have reached 85 miles to stay on track – we’re going to do it and so can you!
If you feel that walking approximately 3 miles in one go each day is too much, then break up your walks in 3 x 1 mile walks, morning, lunchtime and evening. An evening walk is a great way to clear the head before going to bed.
